Pilates is a type of exercise that develops core strength, improves the body’s muscle balance, and results in a longer, leaner and stronger body. Pilates is a full-body strength and conditioning program developed over 50 years ago by Joseph Pilates for recovering WWI soldiers injured in combat. For decades, dancers and performers have known about the body sculpting and functional benefits of Pilates. Only recently have other athletes, and rehabilitation specialists discovered the high value returns that Pilates delivers by maximizing core strength, flexibility, balance and control. While still a staple of the dancer’s routine, golfers, tennis players, cyclists, and gymnasts have been reaping the benefits of Pilates and improving their game.
